Ben Maurer
lives in Horsefly, BC, with his wife, Claudia, and their two children. At his leathershop, he creates custom, handmade, high-quality leather products, crafting everything the cowgirl and cowboy heart could desire.
From the Arena to the Workbench
Born and raised in the small Swiss town of Wernetshausen, Ben found his calling in the saddle and the Western lifestyle. What started as a hobby quickly evolved into a passion for riding and showing cutting and working cow horses in Switzerland, Germany, France, Italy, the United States, and Canada. This international experience gave Ben a firsthand understanding of how a saddle must perform for both horse and rider.
A Full-Time Commitment to Quality
In 2025, Ben took the step of turning his part-time leatherwork into a full-time business, focusing on custom-made saddles and saddle trees. In January of 2026 Ben learnt how to build Saddle Trees in Andy Knights Shop In Merritt, BC.
Mastering the Art of Leather
Ben’s time in the saddle naturally led him to the craft of leatherwork. In 2006 he attended Bob King's Cowboy School in Sheridan, Wyoming. It was a saddle with around 590 individually carved flowers that left a lasting impression on him. He knew then that this was what he wanted to do. As soon as he returned to Switzerland, he attended several flower carving and leatherwork courses. In 2010, he returned to Sheridan, Wyoming, to learn the art of saddle making in Paul Van Dyk's shop. His leatherwork and saddle-making journey continued, and he created his very first own saddles.
